Malabar Tamarind, often known Kudampuli is a kind of tamarind that is widely used in Kerala. It is a sour fruit that resembles a little pumpkin and is roughly the size of a tomato. The fruit is then sun-dried, smoked, and salted and preserved.
Malabar tamarind is used to add a sour or tangy taste to dishes and curries. The dried rind are used as a condiment, especially to flavour fish curries in Kerala. Malabar tamarind has anti-inflammatory , anti-bacterial, anti-diabetic properties and it is believed to cure gastric ulcers. Malabar tamarind is also used in traditional medicinal preparations and has been promoted as an effective method to lose weight.
